What is the overall theme behind your 2023/24 outerwear range? From which big trends do you take your inspiration?
ThruDark’s “Ronin” Alpine Sports Range is inspired by feudal Japan and the Samurai “bushido” code of honour – focusing in particular on the tale of the 47 Ronin. As the story goes, the 47 Ronin (Ronin being leaderless Samurai) set out to avenge the honour of their master after his death at the hands of a rival. Despite taking years to accomplish, and ultimately costing the Ronin their lives, the story serves as an example of dedication to a unifying ethos above all else.
By comparison, ThruDark is founded on the ethos of “Honesty, Integrity, Loyalty” and follows the mantra of “Endeavour Through Adversity”. These principles help guide product design from the initial conceptual stage right through to how products are tested and ultimately marketed. This adherence to ethos has culminated in the Ronin Alpine Sports Range – an outerwear range that embodies a mantra, not just a functional performance.
What new fits / silhouettes are coming out in 2023/24? What pant and jacket styles are most important in your range?
Each Ronin garment bears the name of a traditional Samurai weapon.
The Tanto – a full zip ski jacket made from innovative Japanese fabric eVent DV Alpine membrane, reinforced with a hard-wearing ceramic coating. Featuring YKK AquaGuard zips, a unique front pocket construction and removable snow skirt.
The Shuraken – a half zip ski hoodie with lift pass pocket, inbuilt goggle wipe and integrated snow gaiters on the wrists. A lightweight companion to snow sports in milder conditions.
The Katana – reinforced bib pants with bonded Manju fabric hems for additional abrasion resistance. Bearing a magnetic FidLock system for easy fastening shoulder buckles, leg vents and numerous dump, cargo and key / card pockets for storage of your alpine essentials.
The Yumi – waist pants with hip pockets, leg vents and integrated snow gaiters at the ankles.
What new colours / prints are you introducing?
In signature ThruDark fashion, the Ronin Alpine Sports Range will come in two subtle colourways, Obsidian Black and Olive Green.
Any *NEW* technical stories with regards to fabrics and materials?
The Ronin Alpine Sports Range is our first to utilise innovative DV Alpine fabric from leading textile manufacturer eVent. It’s a 3-layer laminate that’s 20m water column tested and 20,000 g/m2 making it both highly waterproof and highly breathable. It’s a fantastic air permeable waterproof membrane for keeping you comfortable on the mountain, whether you’re skiing, climbing or trekking in rain or snow.

Any trends that your brand is moving away from?
For far too long the outdoor market has been saturated by garish, bright colours which make the wearer look like a walking, talking highlighter pen. True to its Special Forces background, ThruDark prefers its colourways to fly under the radar – ensuring that the only thing to talk about is our products’ function and your performance. Its serious kit for serious outdoor pursuits.
