Stranda 2023/24 Splitboarding Preview
Retail Buyers Guide: Splitboarding 2023/24 Retail Buyer‘s Guide
Brand: Stranda
Interviewee: Mats Drougge, Founder & Shaper
Please provide an overview of how 2023/24 is shaping up for your brand within the splitboard market.
We’ve focused a lot on creating a range of splits that covers all the bases from sidecountry riding to high alpine last four years. Sales has been very good with multiple awards and mentions from magazines and online reviewers. For 23/24 we are fine tuning existing range and adding some sizes.
Everyone has been affected by raw materials and shipping prices increases and transport issues. Have you had to make any significant changes with regards to manufacturing, sourcing, or logistics? Are there any examples you can share of how your business pivoted effectively? Any positive developments with regards to these issues and the changes you’ve made?
As we do carry over designs we have been able juggle these problems with a slight over stock so we always can fulfill pre orders even if we would run in to supply and shipping issues.
After two years of heavy carry over in the industry and more of a return to normalcy last season, what’s your overall sales and production/inventory strategy for 23/24?
We’re still firmly planted in carry over. Changing top sheet designs if there is a big change in construction that needs to be reflected in a new design.
Do you anticipate any shifts in the ratio of e-commerce sales vs. brick-and-mortar sales now that most Covid-19 restrictions are gone? For selling splitboard equipment, are brick-and-mortar retailers especially important?
Shops with passionate owners and staff who carry all sorts of backcountry equipment is by far the best to grow splitboarding and sales. Other than that we feel D2C is just getting stronger.
Does your brand have any new developments concerning sustainability and/or how you are positioning any environmental messaging?
Stranda is certified climate neutral. Aside from offsetting our carbon footprint, longevity of product life and repairability comes an important second. Most of the climate affecting energy consumption used for producing a snowboard is gone when you need to scrap it. That’s why we almost over engineer our boards and use repairable materials, extra thick edges, bases and top sheet materials and durable hardwoods, like ash in all of our cores. Our 4-year warranty is testament to the trust we put in to our snowboards and splitboards.

Descender B.C
Descender Backcountry is multiple awarded directional split with perfect visual balance between what most riders would call a “snowboard” ie enough tail to look like a twin although it’s very directional and a real performer from technical to backcountry freestyle. Our bestseller.
Shorty B.C
Shorty Backcountry is probably one of the easiest to ride splits on the market for someone new to variable conditions riding outside the resort. That said it’s high performing surfy shape with enough camber to support you on the skin track.
Descender Fjäderlätt
