What is the status of the Outdoor Market after summer 2023?
It seems that regional differences are intensifying due to local and global pressures. In some regional markets, the demand for high-quality outdoor products is strong, but in others, customers are far more price-oriented, and they need compelling reasons to pay a premium for better-quality products. More people are participating in outdoor activities, taking up new sports and going on adventures, but as they are either new participants or rekindling historical interest, many are not prepared to invest immediately in higher-quality gear. We are optimistic that over time the benefits of more durable and functional gear will become apparent to new participants and the outdoor market for products will continue to grow with increased participation.
How did war, economy, global warming, overall inflation affect your SS23 sell in plans (delays/ range cancellations/ carry over/stock)?
Being mainly DTC with a limited selection of retail partners we aren’t heavily reliant on wholesale, so we only felt these pressures from a DTC perspective. We are fortunate to have very close links with our production partners and multiple global distribution hubs. With the cost of shipping dropping compared to previous years, we were able to monitor demand and manage supply quite closely.
What are the major trends in the camping segment in spring/summer 2025
We believe that camping is getting more fun and active. People are going to be combining other outdoor pursuits with their camping experience, so we expect to see more cycling/ camping or camping close to trail running spots. Campsites are always going to be busy, but we see people wanting to get further off the beaten track, out to more isolated locations in nature. This means having high-quality kit that can perform multiple functions becomes even more important. From a design perspective whether you’re camping at a campsite or in a remote location we believe that bright colours are the way forward – it always helps to find your pitch!
Take us through your line highlights for s/s 2025
We’ve just launched our hammock range as we believe there is still demand for a truly high-quality and durable product in this space. Our market research illustrated that many of the offers were bulky, badly made and lacking all the parts needed to hang them. Not to say there are not some good options available, but we were able to create a very compact, extremely durable and striking design that can be quickly hung almost anywhere.
What efforts are you implementing towards sustainability?
This is an ongoing project that’s core to our existence as a business in that we are taking plastic ocean waste and turning it into useful products that last for years. We also work closely with our production partners to ensure we have a transparent supply chain and that our factory conditions are high quality for the people working in them. Our staff are all remote, so we don’t have the energy costs associated with a centralized office or commuting. We are implementing an environmentally friendly option for deliveries in Germany which allows customers to opt for returnable packaging instead of using cardboard. We also plant trees for every order. So we are doing a lot, but there is always more to be done!
