Press Release: Yesterday evening Vans and the city of Malmö inaugurated the newly built Kroksbäck skatepark where this weekends Vans Pro Skate Park Series world championship final takes place.
“ It’s been fantastic to watch this skate park evolve over the course of the past few months so rapidly. We are now at a stage where we can say Malmö is a skating town to be reckoned with! We want to make Malmö a place where young people can have fun and enjoyment for many years to come and hopefully this park goes along way in doing so ” says Katrin Stjernfeldt, Mayor of Malmö.
Malmö is run by skateboarders! Not only will you find some of the most interesting skateparks, but a barrage of DIY spots and public spaces adapted for skating. The all new Kroksback skatepark which plays host to Saturdays Vans Pro Skate Park Series final is a world first built-to-spec terrain legacy construction which has been donated by Vans to the community for leading the world with their progressive support of the city’s youth through skateboard programming and activities. Vans, Bryggeriet & Dreamland skateparks came together to create this newly opened legacy park designed specifically for the finals.
“ Building the scene for skateboarding in Malmö is a long term plan and to have the opportunity to work with Vans and together produce a park that will last for generations is pretty special! We must thank the city for finding the space and providing the initial groundwork before we collectively produced a fantastic place for people to enjoy park terrain skateboarding ” says Gustav Eden, Malmö Skate Consultant.
Vans has a history of collaborating with skaters going all the way back to the 70’s, and it was Vans and Steve Van Doren’s approach to listen to the skaters and respond to their needs that helped drive this project. Building this amazing bowl and donating it to the City of Malmö is further evidence of Vans continued commitment to skateboarding and a great step in the process of giving back to the skate community.
“ I love this park! Being a local I’ve had the luxury of skating Stapelbädden but Kroksbäck will hopefully take my skateboarding to the next level” says Kalle Berglind, Vans Team Rider.
