Press Release: Steve Douglas and Alex Cock launch a new distribution company called Nineteen76.

Nineteen76 will be the distributor for Primitive Skateboarding & Apparel.

Steve started skateboarding in London in 1976, winning every contest he entered under the age of 16. He moved to California and turned pro for Schmitt Stix skateboards in 1987.
In 1990 he co-founded New Deal skateboards in the US and at the same time, co-founded distribution company New Deal UK. After the huge global success of New Deal he went on to co-found Element Skateboards in 1992 and shortly after started Giant Skateboard Distribution – an umbrella company for several other successful brands which he also co-founded, including 411 Video Magazine, Mad Circle, Golden State Wheel Co, Destructo Trucks and On Video.

Steve and Alex have worked together for over twenty years, first at NDUK, then at Dwindle distribution. Talking about this new project, Steve said “Things fell into place – I am back in the UK every other month, Alex is one of the best people I have ever worked with. He ran the sales department at New Deal UK then moved over with me to run EMEA sales for Dwindle and eventually Dwindle’s global sales in LA” Steve continues “I had originally planned to start this new company in 2019 (with a company near and dear to my heart – more of that later) but the Primitive opportunity arose and I could not turn it down. I spoke it over with Alex, and he said yes, I could not be happier”

What will make Nineteen76 different? Steve “I have been a brand creator and collector, I have had small and large companies – to be honest I prefer small ones. I want to work with quality people and a small handful of quality brands. We want Nineteen76 to act like a true extension of the brands to the UK scene. We will offer great service and support the local scenes to help grow skateboarding far and wide.

Alex: “I’m extremely stoked to be working again with Steve, he has been a long time mentor and great friend. Being able to work with one your best mates and being part of something positive in skateboarding – it was an offer I couldn’t refuse . . .”
