Press Release: FUNCTION MEETS ART A TRULY NATURAL COLLABORATION.

Introducing the latest Volcom artist collaboration with Schoph. Schoph is a UK based artist with deep roots in snowboarding who has been working with Volcom over the past 15 years, maintaining a prestigious reputation across the world. This collaboration is the latest in reaffirming Volcom’s on-going commitment to supporting artists true to the brand DNA, providing them a unique canvas to showcase their work. Introducing two jackets, in both men’s and women’s styles, based on a long-standing favourite in the range – the trucker jacket. The collaboration is fused with a traditional shopkeeper’s jacket and the heritage of functionality that it evokes. The highlight of each piece being the unique oversized back patch featuring a custom illustration by Schoph.

With a raft of features including oversized pockets as a nod to the painting heritage, which is an integral part of this collaboration, the jacket also has a slightly longer cut as well as a hidden zippered inside pocket. Both jackets are also made from denim, a material which has been an integral part of Volcom’s product story since the brand inception in 1991. In terms of styling, the jackets are ‘western’ inspired – think shoulder patches, double buttons and seams – to ensure maximum comfort. The men’s jacket also features detailing of Schoph’s signature shaka illustration, a cheeky reference to his snowboarding roots and the action sport heritage of Volcom. He is a man rarely seen without his black denim jackets and jeans, highlighting the fact that this collaboration is a natural extension of Schoph’s habitual style and Volcom’s brand DNA.

“The back piece came from a series of paintings I’d been working on for maybe 5 months or so – I have been wanting to produce a coffin shaped patch adding an individual style rather than the regular rectangle format, making the jacket more unique. The image has been a progression in my reaper art, “All the best” – a saying I grew up with back home meaning cheers, farewell, goodbye and so on – something I use on the regular.

Working on this collaboration and having the opportunity to produce my own signature jacket means a lot to me. The Volcom family have always supported me as an artist and I really appreciate that. I wanted to produce something that I’d wear in my studio from day to day – a go-to-paint-in jacket just as a regular shop jacket in a garage or wood shop. An individual signature jacket that has form as well as function”

It’s through his creatively and alignment with the DNA of the Volcom brand that we present this truly form-meets-function collaboration.

Volcom invites you to “Follow Me, I Am Right Behind You”, an exhibition of works by Schoph, from 6 pm on Thursday 17 October, at the Volcom Store in Paris. To celebrate the launch of his signature jackets, Schoph is taking over the shop artworks, refreshments will be provided by Lagunitas and the DJ will spin some heavy tunes. If you can’t make it for the opening event, the art show will remain at the Volcom Store Paris for over a month. On top of the event, the artist has produced and will drop four limited edition engraved skate decks in the streets of Paris, London, Barcelona and Amsterdam. Follow @_schoph_ and @volcomstudio on Instagram to find the spot and get it first.
