Brand:  Burton
Interviewee: Benedikt Pelikan/Director Merchandising

How was last season in the snowboard boot market?
Demand on Snowboardboots is still solid at a high level. Consumers are understanding the need of a perfect fitting and comfortable boot for snowboarding and it looks like this part of the equipment is updated more often then boards or bindings.

With the recent overall price increases, have there been any positive developments in manufacturing, sourcing, or logistics?
Even with the normalisation of inflation over Europe the Consumer is still looking for Brand /great quality/performance and price. Within this frame we as a producer are challenged to bring the best product to the market for a price what the consumer is willing to pay for. We are working with all our manufacturers since a very long time and these partnerships are helping in a challenging production environment to full the consumer needs.

What are the major trends you’re seeing with product pricing in the snowboard boots market?
Average selling prices are up again – Consumers are willing to spend some money on a good snowboard boot to have more performance at riding.

E-commerce Vs. physical retail, how are you balancing both channels?
The Consumer decides ultimately where the shopping happens. It comes down to a positive shopping experience and this could be a Speciality Retailer or a Brand website.  Speciality snowboard Shops have an advantage to sell in person combined with a good choice of styles and sizes.

How are you supporting retailers to sell this category?
Knowledge transfer to Consumers over burton.com is helping to understand the differences between models. We do Shop clinics for our Retailers if needed as well.

What unique brand messages are you focusing on for the 2025/2026 snowboard boot season?
Comfort and Performance are the Key Messages to transport to the consumer – combined with easy Entry Performance into the Bindings with Step On.

The new ankle harness is replacing our inner cuff, controlled via a Boa dial on the outside of the shell for simple on the fly adjustment throughout a rider’s day.

What lacing systems will be your main focus for the 2025/2026 boots?
Our main focus in lacing systems is BOA. With our new high-end Step On models we are exploring an all new approach to lower zone closure, with lacing located on the inside of shell (closer to foot,) with a panel wrapping over the top of the foot.
