‘Skateboarding Is Not A Fashion’ Book Launch, Los Angeles
The stars were out in Los Angeles on January 18 for the world premiere of the new history book Skateboarding Is Not A Fashion (co-created by SOURCE’s very own skateboard editor, Dirk Vogel) at Avenue Des Arts gallery. Skateboard icons past and present welcomed the book and accompanying art show featuring original clothing from six decades of skate apparel history in Downtown LA.
Skate personalities attending the opening included Tony Alva, Christian Hosoi, Steve Olson, Lance Mountain, Dave Hackett, Craig R Stecyk III, Jay Smith, Jeff Ho, Don Brown, Alex Olson, Damon Way, Shepard Fairey, and many more.
Created by Juergen Bluemlein of the Skateboard Museum with photos by Cap Ten and words by Boardsport SOURCE skateboarding editor Dirk Vogel, Skateboarding Is Not A Fashion chronicles the history of skate style on 632 pages.
The launch event and art show were presented in cooperation with VANS Skateboarding, who launched their new Versa Hoodie DX apparel collection that same day. The event also featured a panel discussion about skate fashion with Tony Alva (skateboard icon), Christian Hosoi (skateboard icon), Mackenzie Eisenhour (TransWorld Skateboarding), and authors Juergen Bluemlein and Dirk Vogel.
