Globe FW22 Skate Footwear Preview
Retail Buyers Guide: Skate Footwear F/W 2022 Retail Buyer’s Guide
Brand: Globe
Interviewee: Morgan King, Footwear designer and Philippe Clarisse, VP Europe
How is the overall health of the European skate shoes market right now?
The market is quite good for Globe at the moment as we got huge increases on our Fall21 and Spring22 prebooks and the most important repeat order business ever on the Fall21 season
How is Covid-19 continuing to effect business and how are you navigating the issues? Ie Carry overs/ shipping costs/ delays etc..
Impact until now (for Fall21) was non-significant as our factories were opened which seems not the case in a few other countries so we are happy.
Of course, production and freight costs are increasing so this has of course an impact on our retail prices
What are your main price points for next season?
What is your collection theme and which stories are you telling to get customers stoked on skate shoes this season? Ultimately we have one main theme, pushing our goals of making the most sustainable skate shoe in the market. Better for skateboarding. Better for the planet. To get to our end goal, we like to work in key story formats to showcase seasonal themes along with our sustainable underlying story.
We have three main key stories this season:
The Concrete collection: Visually inspired by the literal streets we skate, these shoes feature digitally printed suede, rubber overlays in high abrasion zones for added durability, and Bloom algae rubber in the outsoles as a sustainable alternative to petroleum-based rubber.
The Midnight collection: Blacked out? Or blued out? These classic skate styles are dipped in
midnight. From sole to upper including everything in between this seasonal color is inspired by the new ID of our Globe Skateboarding program.
The Core collection: In our constant pursuit to make the most sustainable skate shoe ever, brings together a distressed eco-leather from gold rated tannery. Wolverine Leathers™, Bloom™ rubber made from algae, and new eco-lasting boards made from certified 100% post-consumer polyester. These materials have been thoroughly tested and proven to be eco-friendlier, more durable and fit to perform. Better for skateboarding. Better for the planet
How are you serving the needs of retailers as more marketing shifts to digital channels?
We’ve just reinforced our marketing team in order to better customize our retailers’ needs marketing-wise and align our campaigns with the retailers’ website
What general trends are you noticing in Europe right now?
It seems the hardgoods boom is giving us a good trend on our skate shoes: we can see this phenomenon with the sales of our Vincent Milou Surplus shoe, the result of Vincent at the Olympics strongly favored the demand and the sell-through of this style
What is THE skate shoe style retailers need to stock this season?
Are you favouring more simplistic silhouettes or tech-heavy profiles? Both! We have had great runs in our Hertitage series of shoes and with our sustainable goal fusing with relevant colour packages, the results have been apparent. Both customer bases share the same goals we do
Are you proud of any new technology in your shoes?
We are proud of our steps in the right direction. I think the material choices and colours have directed to being more timeless than just trying to pursue fast fashion or trinket technology are appreciated
Are you focusing more on capsule or vulc? Which sells best for you?
Both but generally we see more true skaters pick up on the vulc product as it is well made and long lasting compared to other vulc shoes out there in the market.
