La Kantera Invitational 2018 Recap | Volcom
An impressive global roster of skateboarders shredded the infamous Algorta pool at the Volcom La Kantera Invitational 2018. The skaters were graced with perfect sunny conditions and the party atmosphere continued late into the night with the local band Purple Vellocet playing for the crowds.
Press Release: The legendary pool of Algorta got shredded into pieces by an international field of skateboarders, and besides a few injuries and a destroyed pool ladder, the action didn’t stop. Congratulations to Jordyn Barratt (USA) who took top honours in Women division, Nicky Guerrero (Denmark) for winning the Masters division and to Vincent Matheron (France) for his first place in the Pro/Am division.
On top of all the action we also celebrated Alain Goikoetxea’s 20 years with Volcom in his hometown, surprising him with a giant Volcom Stone cake and an Eagletone guitar customized by his sister and artist Naiara. The warm up day (Friday) ended with a giant Barbecue at the beach on the evening, and with the local psychedelic band Purple Vellocet playing at Sunset. With the beers flowing, the party peaked with Pizza Knife taking over the stage with a killer punk show.
It was all about good vibes on the contest day (Saturday), the public coming in numbers as the day advanced to watch the action in the grandstand around the pool or in the grass fields surrounding playa Arrigunaga. The action continued after the prize ceremony with Woody Woodcutters and FAVX playing a live free show under a stunning sunset. Then it was time to crack more cold ones down the beach for the annual Sanjuanada celebrating the longest day of the year with fires everywhere.
