The world’s best surfers will return to Maui’s Honolua Bay for the World Surf League (WSL) Women’s Championship Tour (CT) finale thanks to new title partner lululemon. lululemon has teamed up with WSL to support the Maui Pro, the final stop on the 2019 WSL CT that will determine this year’s surfing World Title.

As part of the partnership, lululemon will provide additional athlete preparation and recovery zones for the world’s best surfers and a new VIP viewing area for fans.

Sharing WSL’s commitment to the progression of women’s surfing, lululemon will also support the WSL Rising Tides program in Maui. WSL Rising Tides is the global beachside engagement program where young local surfers have the opportunity to surf and interact with the professional competitors at each CT stop. Honolua Bay was host to the first-ever Rising Tides event last year and will now have lululemon’s full support to inspire the next generation of young girls.

“We are so lucky to be returning to Honolua Bay again this year thanks to the support of lululemon and WSL,” said Malia Manuel (HAW), professional surfer and lululemon Elite Ambassador. “Honolua is by far the best event on our schedule and to finish our competitive year in Hawaii is so special to me. I’m looking forward to being involved in all the amazing things that lululemon and the WSL Tour bring to the awesome community of Maui.”

“We are excited about our new partnership with lululemon and WSL,” said Cherie Cohen, WSL Chief Revenue Officer. “lululemon is tremendously well-aligned with our healthy and active lifestyle community. This partnership is a testament to the importance of the World Title and a celebration of women’s surfing at all levels.”

As one of the most iconic waves on the CT, the lululemon Maui Pro at Honolua Bay will host the World Title showdown between current World No. 1 Carissa Moore (HAW), No. 2 Lakey Peterson (USA), and No. 3 Caroline Marks (USA), and will also serve as the final provisional CT qualification pathway for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

Moore retains the Jeep Leader Jersey heading into the lululemon Maui Pro, but the gap between Peterson and Marks has narrowed and this final event of the season will witness an exciting World Title battle. The domination of the three compatriots atop the Jeep Leaderboard marks a historic first in 38 years since the Margo Oberg (HAW), Liz Benavidez (USA), and Brenda Scott-Rogers (USA) era in the 1981 season.

The World Title scenarios ahead of the lululemon Maui Pro:

  • If Carissa Moore wins Maui, she clinches the World Title;
  • If Moore gets a 2nd, Lakey Peterson needs a 1st to take the World Title from Moore;
  • If Moore gets a 3rd, Peterson needs a 2nd & Caroline Marks a 1st;
  • If Moore gets a 5th/9th/17th, Peterson needs 3rd & Marks a 2nd to force a 3-way Tie Surf Off for World Title decision in Maui

The lululemon Maui Pro opens on November 25 and runs through December 6, 2019. The event will be broadcast live on WorldSurfLeague.com and the free WSL app. Also, check local listings for coverage from the WSL’s broadcast partners.
