Press Release: The iconic Chambre d’Amour beach in Anglet prepares to host a full week of high-performance surfing and entertainment as World Surf League action brings professional athletes back to the Basque Country. The event village will open in the morning of Saturday, August 17, offering locals and visiting tourists a chance to browse products and enjoy activations from event partners. During the following six days, Anglet will be the center of the surfing world’s attention as some of the best surfers in the world compete for a piece of the prize purse and ranking points on offer.

“The Pro Anglet returns this year with the support of Portuguese surf brand Deeply, further strengthening its position as an important event on the WSL schedule,” Claude Olive, Mayor of Anglet stated. “Surfing has been a passion in Anglet for over sixty years and once again the best surfers on the Qualifying Series will come put on a great show on our beaches. Even though the event had to be slightly shortened because of the G7 happening next door, I have no doubt the WSL will do everything to run a smooth event and crown the 2019 winners.”

Situated right the heart of the French Basque Country, Anglet is part of a greater 900km coastline in Nouvelle-Aquitaine that boasts world-class waves year-round and is home to some of the best surfers on the planet.

WSL World Surf League Deeply Pro Anglet fifth edition QS1,500

Deeply Pro Anglet returns for its fifth edition

The QS1,500 Deeply Pro Anglet returns for a fifth edition at a crucial point in the Qualifying Series season. As the second-to-last counting event in the regional title race, Anglet could potentially crown Europe’s best surfer this year, but more importantly, it comes as a final chance to prepare for a massive leg taking surfers to Spain and Portugal with massive points on the line.

Unfolding for the first time from Monday to Friday, August 19-23, the Deeply Pro Anglet will also give up-and-coming surfers a chance to battle it out with the best in the game as the field also includes juniors looking to build experience on the QS. Deeply riders Uhaina Joly (FRA) and Jonathan Gonzalez (CNY) received a wildcard from their sponsor and Thomas Bady (FRA) was the Anglet Surf Club’s choice of representation.

The newly signed partnership with Portuguese surf brand Deeply will allow this event to build on its four-year history and grow bigger and better. Deeply has built its profile by supporting athletes, men, and women, of all ages and disciplines. The likes of Maxime Huscenot, Vasco Ribeiro or Lucia Martino have found a connection with the brand and their products to help them perform on tour. This support and collaboration grant Deeply the credibility and trust in the face of core surf targets. It is this partnership that allows the brand to develop wetsuits that deliver the features surfers look for, no matter the level of expertise and gender. The natural evolution for Deeply was to support an event, which is the platform for their athletes to shine.
