Ecopure®: A More Sustainable Type of Surf Traction
Less Impact. Proven Performance.
As surfers, our playground and home is at risk. Plastic pollution is especially a concern, with an estimated 8 million tonnes of plastic being dumped in the ocean every year. At Creatures we’re always looking for ways to do things better. The first is building products people will use for a long time. Durability and reliability are a must. We also hunt for more sustainable materials where they make sense. The latest of these is our new EcoPure® traction – surf grip that biodegrades in landfill at the end of its life.
We’ve partnered with Bio-Tec Environmental to add an organic additive to our EVA process. It keeps the performance of the traction but lets things break down under the right conditions. Now, if your board is broken, you can pull off the pad, dispose of it responsibly and know it’ll return to the earth without adding to plastic pollution.
The compound that makes this all possible is called EcoPure®. Our team riders were ultra stoked in the results, with Steph Gilmore, Mick Fanning and Jack Freestone all keen to offer signature pads in this more sustainable option. All at only a small extra cost.
“It makes me proud to see Creatures are changing their practices and are introducing the new EcoPure® pads… we all need to make changes and look after our environment to protect what we really love.” – Steph Gilmore
Having EcoPure® in the range also prompted us to relook at our packaging. As a result, all the traction packaging has been changed to be made from recyclable, biodegradable materials. It’s not just the EcoPure options. It’s every style that has been improved.
If you want to make sure you’re choosing more sustainable traction, look out for the EcoPure logo on the packaging, or hit up your local retailer to make sure they’re stocking it.
