Retail Buyers Guide:  Mens Outerwear FW24/25 Retail Buyer’s Guide
Brand:  Oakley
Interviewee: CARRIE BRIGGS, PRODUCT MARKETING MANAGER

What is the overall theme behind your 2024/25 outerwear range? From which big trends do you take your inspiration?
Oakley’s vision for the 2024/25 outerwear collection is thoughtfully designed to cater to the various disciplines with a special emphasis on backcountry adventures. We design gear that meets the unique demands of backcountry explorations to include durability, weather resistance, adaptability and versatility. This holistic approach to offering an all-mountain experience expands to our helmet and goggles and accessories providing a complete and integrated experience. One of the trends we are seeing is the desire to transition seamlessly between the on and off mountain environments. With that, we have designed versatile pieces that aim to offer both performance and style for complete versatility. Our designs focus is on adaptability, modularity and the ability for our consumers to tailor their outfits around their needs whether they are based on the conditions or personal preferences. Our design aesthetics draw inspiration from the natural world with colors, organic lines and shapes.  When matched with our helmets and goggles the approach is visually appealing and harmonious. The combination of functionality, style and nature-inspired design elements really embraces the spirit of outdoor exploration.

What new fits / silhouettes are coming out in 2024/25? What pant and jacket styles are most important in your range?
Along with designing products for a variety of disciplines, we also looked to adjust the fit depending on the consumer. Having the right fit for your mountain discipline or style is just as important as all the other functional details and helps to elevate comfort. With that said, we’ve better defined our silhouettes to Slim, designed to be trim, close to the body while allowing freedom of movement, Regular, which is a comfortable fit that allows freedom of movement and loosely follows the body shape.  Our third fit , Baggy, is inspired by streetwear.  It is our most relaxed fit that is loose around the body with drop shoulders, a low crotch, extra roomy in the legs and upper body.

What new colours / prints are you introducing?
In crafting our collections, we draw not only from the latest color trends but from the rich palette found in organic elements. Earth tones and shades become our canvas, mirroring the subtle beauty of the world outside.  Our prints are visual narratives of the intricate patterns and textures found in nature. Our designs reflect the organic and harmonious aesthetics of the natural world and altered nature, whether it’s the swirls in rocks, the intricate lines on bark or leaves, or how the light plays on the water. The result of our collection showcases the relationship between fashion and nature, celebrating the vast expanse of the great outdoors

Any *NEW* technical stories with regards to fabrics and materials?
We are always looking to elevate our outerwear with newer fabrics and technologies and this season we are expanding our offerings with our FNDRY 30/20k for ultimate waterproofness and breathability as well as sustainable insulation and treatments. We’ve partnered with RECCO technology and have reflectors on selected gear, and D3O for snow back protector for those that want to explore out of bounds.
