Retail Buyers Guide:  Sunglasses S/S 2024 Retail Buyer‘s Guide
Brand:  Quiksilver
Interviewee: JP Bonnemason

How was the sunglasses market overall in 2023?
We saw a slight decrease compared to the last 2 years. We had a good sell out on the technical frames. People were looking for more tech features and benefits in their outdoor activities.

What new trends have you seen for sunglasses in board sports for 2024?
The main key trend is the come-back of the wrapped rectangle and oval shapes inspired of the 2000’s.

What segment of your offering is selling best in 2024 so far?
Our franchise Slash is in the top seller 2024. This is our technical cylindric shield available with different lens technologies as polarized, photochromic, X-trem antifog with hydro and oleophobic treatments. Our iconic shape the Ferris which is more casual, and perennial is still also in our best seller for more than 12 years! Buying Quiksilver sunnies, our consumers are still looking for a mix of performance and lifestyle to wear them every day in all conditions and activities.

Have you introduced any frame shapes and colours in your 2024 offer?
The Fishy is the new Quiksilver style of 2024. This is a wrapped rectangle shape inspired from the 2000’s, linked to our Mercury collection, a youthful and relevant capsule build on the Y2K fashion trend. Marketing style with the iconic Quiksilver Saturn logo. Available in three metallic colors: matte black, matte gun and shiny silver

Which lens technologies from your 2024 offer are most in demand?
We are still offering a large panel of polarized lenses mainly on green lenses or flash gold lenses.

Have you introduced any new lens colours and tints in your 2024 offering?
No new colours and tints, we use to collaborate with Zeiss lenses in grey, brown and green with sometimes some flash treatments in blue, silver or red.

Any noteworthy sustainable practices in your production and shipping processes this year?
One of the main focus of the Boardriders group is to offer sustainable products. The Quiksilver eyewear collection will be at 100% of the range sustainable. It means that 100% of the Quiksilver sunnies range will be made with new materials and at least 30% of the total weight of the product is sustainable. We use the following materials:

  • Re PET: recycled plastic bottles material
  • Bio nylon: Rilsan G850 is a high performance copolyimide based on renewable resources.
All the packagings, cases, cardboards, hangtags, polybags are recycled. All the men collection is made in Italy.

What are your marketing stories?
Main story for SS 24 for Quiksilver is the SATURN collection.  This old school collection features some old shapes and fabrics with the Saturn logo: an elliptic logo. The sunnies being part of this range are called ELLIPSE & FISHY. It is a mix of vintage and future.

How are you supporting retailers to sell this category?
