How do you use social media to you advantage to promote your store?

We have a facebook page and a website to promote our store but we don’t really use them that much. We remain old-skool and prefer direct interaction with our customers as a means to share and express our passion for the sport. We’d rather concentrate our efforts and service on a local scale, for example kitting out and equipping the guys who run the snow park.

What particular product has been the best seller? What’s working and what isn’t?

Hardgoods have been the best sellers for the last 2 seasons (helped also by the weather conditions) generally top and bottom of the range sell the best. The mid range products are the hardest to sell

What is your best selling accessory category?

Baseball caps have become the must have accessory

What are the benefits of having a physical shop over simply having an online store?

Having a shop allows us to interact with the clientele which in turn develops our customer relations and creates cu
stomer loyalty. Many of our repeat customers chose to come back for the friendly service we provide and not just for the products and technical advise.

What makes your store different and in what ways does your store excel beyond your competition?

We’ve continued to follow the ever evolving market over the last 15 years but in doing so we’ve kept our independence, a unique vibe and identity going which makes us stand out from the large monopoly chains. Our concept has stayed the same and our work team remain passionate and knowledgable about the sport and the mountains

What trends do you see upcoming?

Continuous advances in technology are having a major impact on all winter sports and will continue to do so in the future.

What kind of advice can you give other independent retailers who are trying to compete against the big megastores?

Be as innovative as possible.

Which up and coming brands do you hope to stock in the future?

We’ve been lucky enough to be involved in the market for a long time and maintain a good image so when we want to stock a new brand its never a problem. It’s more an issue of the type product you’re stocking rather than the brand name itself.

What are you doing to pull people into your store?

Great product knowledge, customer care and professionalism remain our best attributes against promotional websites, together with offering exclusive products

What have been the best three selling categories for you in the last 12 months?

Hardgoods in general, particularly boots and bindings

Please tell us of any upcoming initiatives your shop has planned? (events, signings, re-vamps etc…)

We’re giving the shop a makeover as its been 4-5 years since we last did any renovations
