Revealed: VISSLA’s Futuristic Wetsuit A Ploy To Coax Surf Industry Into Climate Change Action
Vissla have been drip-feeding imagery and footage of a futuristic looking wetsuit on their Instagram channel for the past couple of weeks, and today the brand announced that they have no intention of putting the suit into production. Vissla and Surfrider Foundation created the suit – complete with LED display mask to inform the user of water pollution levels – not for production, but to “amplify attention to the urgent risks our oceans and coasts are facing“. The brand saw a heavy number of comments on the posts with everyone from skeptics to advocates, making for a successful call to action.

A wetsuit we never want to make a reality.

The Rising Seas wetsuit is not real, but the threats to our ocean are very real. This concept was made to amplify attention to the urgent risks our oceans and coasts are facing.

Due to climate change, extreme weather events are increasing at an alarming rate, destroying coastlines and devastating coastal communities.
~
Warming water temperatures are producing increasingly more harmful algae blooms which will close beaches, kill wildlife, and cause severe illness to surfers and swimmers in result.

By 2070, it is estimated that, due to climate change, sea levels will rise by 3 feet, wiping out 87% of California’s best surf breaks.

This wetsuit is our reality unless we act now.
