Retail Buyers Guide:  Foil S/S 2025 Retail Buyer’s Guide
Brand:  SIC
Interviewee: Casi Rynkowski, Brand Manager of SIC Maui

What sport is driving the most demand at the moment (kite, wind, wing, surf…) and why?
Wing foiling is currently driving the most demand for foils and foil boards.. This is due to its versatility, ease of learning, and portability. Wing foiling combines elements of windsurfing, kiteboarding, and surfing, which make it appealing to a wide range of enthusiasts. Its performance in light wind conditions increases its flexibility, making it more accessible. Rapid innovation in gear, effective marketing, and a growing community presence have also significantly boosted its popularity.

Which of your 2024 foil setups has sold best and why?
The simplicity of our “Flite Complete” 2000 and 1500 make them our best-selling foil kit. They have perfect lift and stability to get you up fast and progress at an entry-level price. The base, mast, and fuselage are constructed with alloy, and the front and rear wings have a carbon wrap. All front and rear wings, T-Bar, and fuselage are interchangeable with our Slash system, allowing optimal fine-tuning to accommodate your weight, riding style, and riding conditions.

What are the main trends in foil construction, materials, and design?
Current trends in foil construction focus on using advanced materials like carbon fiber for higher strength-to-weight ratios, resulting in more responsive and durable foils. Hydrodynamic designs are being optimized to reduce drag and increase lift, improving efficiency and speed. Modular systems allow users to interchange components for customization based on conditions and preferences. Mast stiffness enhancement provides better stability and control, while controlled flexibility in specific parts improves feedback and maneuverability. Additionally, advanced surface treatments reduce friction and enhance water flow, further boosting performance and durability.

What are the highlights of your 2025 foil offer?
SIC Maui has been working to catch up in the performance foiling arena. Over the past two years, we have focused on designing and testing to ensure that these additions to our product lineup deliver the best performance results. In 2025, we added a smaller Slash 600 front wing, specifically designed for speed and slalom. This complements our recently released 750 and 900 front wing sizes. Our smaller front wing options have a slightly lower Aspect Ratio (AR) to ensure maximum control at high speeds and feature a more pronounced anhedral curve to improve maneuverability along the yaw axis. Dedicated primarily to speed in wingfoiling, the 750 and 600 sizes are also adaptable for kitefoiling, while the 750 and 900 sizes are suitable for surfoiling. This expansion showcases SIC Maui’s commitment to versatility and excellence in foil design. For riders looking for even more performance, we are excited to introduce a Slash HM Mast 800 and 900. These masts boast a 114mm chord length at the bottom. This significantly reduces drag and improves control during sharp turns. The constant chord length ensures predictable performance, making direction changes smooth and reliable, no matter where the waterline is. With a sleek 13mm thickness profile, these masts excel in maintaining a ventilation-free state even at high velocities. Inside, a carbon beam enhances stiffness without compromising weight, providing a robust yet lightweight structure. The HM mast layup further increases stiffness and torsion, delivering superior control during turns and high speeds. Versatile and high-performing, the HM Mast 900 is perfect for downwind sailing with a 900 HAR front wing and wing foiling with 600 front wings. Both masts come with a padded cover, for maximum protection during transport and storage. SIC Global Athlete Raz Sayre, new to the European race scene, competed at the Defi on the new Slash HM 900 mast with Slash 600 front wing. It was his first Defi race, and he placed 47th out of 370 athletes, with the top 100 all competing on highly specialized race foils, proving that the Slash series is competitive right out of the box. This July, we will launch a limited release of the new Slash HAR 900 and 1100 front wings to be paired with the new downwind SUP foil board called the KūNalu. The Slash HAR front wings have a high aspect ratio and flat profile, with no winglets. They are designed to maximize glide for downwind and pumping and can be used for surf foiling, SUP downwind, and wing foiling.

Which of your 2024 foilboard setups has sold best and why?
From the creative mind of master shaper/designer Mark Raaphorst, the Raptor Launch emerges as our top-selling board. Constructed using our Ace-Tec technology and crafted in our factory in France, this board offers an affordable and durable solution for foiling enthusiasts without compromising performance. Like all his designs, Mark’s meticulous attention to detail is showcased in the Raptor Launch. The board features a fullnose outline and a straight tail rocker, stabilizing paddling while maintaining excellent performance. The placement of the rear foil and the bottom chine facilitates easy lift-off and provides forgiveness during the initial learning phase. The double-slotted box ensures more secure foil mounting, while narrower foot strap placement is specifically designed for wing foiling, enabling dynamic maneuverability.

What are the main trends in Foilboard construction, materials, and design?

What are the highlights of your 2025 foilboard offer?
For 2025 SIC is introducing the KŪNALU, a downwind specialist for SUP, wing, and light wind foiling. The KŪNALU name has history with SIC. Mark Raaphorst introduced his first hollow paddleboard, the KŪNALU, in 2005. Now, it is aptly reborn into the modern era of downwind SUP foiling. “Nalu” means wave, and “Ku” has many meanings, one being to stand or rise up, which now appropriately signifies rising above the water.

Key Products:
The KŪNALU:

Features a flat section bottom with a tail wedge. This provides exceptional initial stability and effortless porpoising before pop-up, whether in flat water or swell. The increased volume towards the tail ensures stability, while the thinned-out nose minimizes the swing rate for agile maneuvers. The rail apex at the deck enhances side-to-side stability and prevents rail catching during fast turns, allowing for a fluid and responsive ride. The Forward fin box placement offers the sensation of a shorter board, transforming your riding experience with enhanced maneuverability and control. The 5/8 contoured deck gives paddlers a precise sense of the outer perimeter, while balanced front and rear thickness ensure a neutral ride with even leg pressure during long foil flights. The longer pointed nose outline with a forward center-wide point improves hull speed for effortless takeoffs and minimizes drag during high-speed touchdowns.
Crafted with our NEW Super Fly Lite (SFL) technology, the KŪNALU boasts a custom carbon PVC construction with vertical carbon PVC foil tracks and blocks for unparalleled strength and durability. Its sophisticated carbon reveal, highlighting the board’s lines contrasted with colorful thick rails, emphasizes its performance-driven ride.
