The surge in the wetty category overwhelmed even some of the biggest players of the market. How did you cope with the demand in SS21?
During the beginning of the pandemic, SOÖRUZ took the decision to maintain all orders at its factories. Thanks to this decision we were able to deliver our customers on time. Nevertheless, the market explosion made us miss sales because we had no more goods. The current situation is very good for wetsuit industry, but it is also unstable we don’t know how the market will evolve in the next couple of month. The supply is very complicated at the moment and we had to do a lot of work upstream to ensure the demands of our customers. We feel confident that for summer 22 we would be able to cope with the demand. Can you please give an overview of your different ranges (performance, constructions, prices) for SS22?
Any range at Soöruz benefits from the same level of demand. We must always market the best wetsuit possible on the market within its price range. In addition, you will get unique sustainable innovations and a design touch from Soöruz. With summer 2021 in mind, we continue our work on the eco-design label we came up with, SOÖRUZ OCEAN PROTECT.
Our high-performance Oysterprene rubber made out of oyster shells will be available on the Guru, Fighter, and Divine ranges. It’s to say starting at €219, up to €379. We feel very proud to be able to offer eco-designed wetsuits starting at €219. Our GURU+ range in Oysterprene, available for men and women is our warmest and comfiest wetsuit with the most high-end finish details. It will be available with or without the hood included in 5/4/3 and 4/3 still under €400 for a high-end wetsuit.
Our GREEN LINE in Biöprene+ will be available for women in 4/3mm and 3/2mm versions, and for men, still in 4/3mm, 3/2mm, and spring suits models. This wetsuit is at the very edge of the eco-designing concept, without compromising on performance, still under €300.
We also introduce the Fighter Pro, Jorgann Couzinet’ signature model. This is a wetsuit tailored for the pro contests, ultralight, supple, & again eco-designed with the implementation of Oysterprene foam as well as recycled nylon on the linings. Not to mention its aggressive looks.

Which are your key innovations for SS22? (materials, constructions, styles…)
We worked on a new formula for the BIÖPRENE foam. This foam is certified by the USDA with 75% biobased product. We increase the percentage of hevea, sugar cane, and non-edible vegetal oil, making the foam even more respectable for the environment. We also review shape of each wetsuit making them more comfortable and stretch.

Bold colors and graphics seem to be a thing of the past among the Spring-Summer wetsuit offer. Is the period more prone to fine details, textures and low profile prints?
SOÖRUZ always used bold colors on their wetsuits in order to differentiate from other brands. It is true that for S22 the collection tone down a little bit, but we are still using bold colors association that are well appreciated by our customers. Fine details and textured fabric are what differentiate high end wetsuits from other wetsuits. That is why at SOÖRUZ we work hard on the finishing details of each wetsuits range making them more durable.

Sustainability is key in the wetsuit category: which materials/process did you implement in SS22?
The new BIÖPRENE is a good example of what SOÖRUZ does in sustainability as well as the label SOÖRUZ OCEAN PROTECT that we keep on improving for more than 2 years now. The purpose of our SOÖRUZ OCEAN PROTECT Label is to reduce the environmental footprint, integrate the performance into the product lifecycle, and promote the most eco-friendly products. All this should be easy to understand for the final customer. The OCEAN PROTECT Label is the result of several years of work on environmental issues to integrate into the development/conception of our products. It considers all the product lifecycle, from Raw Materials to the end of life (Recycling by Shredding the wetsuit), managing in the meantime the manufacturing process, the logistic, and of course the use of its product.
We are still working on our SECOND LIFE program, before summer 22 we will have shred more than 20 000 and are offering new products to our customers made out of recycled wetsuits.
