Spanish Shop Venero Crowned Vans Shop Riot Champions 2019
The standard was spectacularly high in Amsterdam this weekend at the Vans Shop Riot Finals 2019. 14 teams brought their A-game to NOORD skatepark making judging the final two teams difficult, in the end, Spain’s Venero skate shop triumphed to become 2019’s champions.
Press Release:
The Vans Shop Riot Finals drew to a dramatic close this weekend (October 25 & 26, 2019) at Amsterdam’s NOORD skatepark and it was Venero (ES), who overcame fierce competition from 14 of the best skate shop teams in Europe to be crowned Vans Shop Riot 2019 Champions.
First on the agenda was a ‘cash for tricks mini ramp jam’ at NOORD skatepark on Friday October 25, 2019. The jam kicked things off in true Vans Shop Riot style with riders from all 15 teams stoking each other up to go bigger and better. A special mention to Simon Karlsson (Junkyard) and Robin Bolian (Wall Street) who both wowed the crowd with an unbelievable display of transition skateboarding.
The finals ensued on Saturday October 26, 2019, the heats preceding the finals showed that every team was hungry to bring the Vans Shop Riot 2019 title home. After a hard-fought battle, it was Junkyard (SE), Burnside (NL), Skate Boutique (BE) and Venero (ES) who made it into the semi-finals. Sweden’s Junkyard impressed the judges with a barrage of technical tricks, mixed in with some heavy hammers. Local shop Burnside (NL) brought a strong turnout of fans with them who weren’t shy about raising the roof in support of their local shop, which created an amazing atmosphere throughout the day. Rob Maatman lived up to his reputation, destroying the course with his signature effortless style. However, despite the best efforts of Junkyard (SE) and Burnside (NL) they didn’t make it through to the finals, finishing fourth and third respectively.
The finals saw a head-to-head between the 2017 Vans Shop Riot Champions, Skate Boutique (BE) and Spain’s Venero. Skate Boutique (BE) came out strong, charging every inch of the course with amazing consistency. Venero (ES) retorted with a technical masterclass which saw Adriel Parmisano crooked grind kickflip out on the down handrail and Christian Estrada backside 360 to front lipslide on the bump to rail. With both teams skating so well, the final result was extremely hard to call but after careful consideration from the judges, it was Venero (ES) who were crowned Vans Shop Riot 2019 champions.
A special thanks goes out to Jacob Ovgren, the 2019 series artist and all the competing skate shops who were involved in the 2019 Vans Shop Riot.
