PRESS RELEASE: The Wave Launches Search for Inspiring People to Surf First Waves
The Wave, the unique inland surfing destination opening in Bristol this November, has launched a search for people to appear in its first line-up. The team at The Wave is calling on people to nominate someone with an inspiring story who they think deserves to surf the first public waves this autumn.
Founder Nick Hounsfield, explains more:
“I’m often asked who is going to ride the first waves and people assume it will be me. I’ve always said that I don’t want it to be about me, and that there are many more deserving people. The Wave is about more than the individual – it’s about people coming together to share the joy of surfing and we want our first line-up to reflect that.
“We’re asking for nominations for inspiring people to ride our first public waves. We’re looking for ordinary people that have done extraordinary things, everyday heroes that have overcome big problems or individuals who’ve achieved something amazing.”
“The nominees don’t need to know how to surf, as we are looking for a range of people of all abilities, from complete novices to dedicated surfers. Whether their passion in life is surfing, or they’ve never stepped on a board before, we’ll make sure they have the best time surfing those first waves.”
People can nominate by posting a video on social media explaining who they are proposing and why, tagging @thewave and using the hashtags #FindYourWave and #Giveawave. Alternatively, nominations can be made via the Wave website at https://www.thewave.com/nominate-someone-ride-our-first-waves-no-experience-required/
The Wave team will then select the winners to be part of a special launch event at the end of October.
The 200m long surfing lake is at its heart, but The Wave is not just about surfing. It’s about sharing incredible experiences with anyone who wants to enjoy them, in a naturally healthy space. It’s about improving health and wellbeing, helping people feel like the best version of themselves and having a shedload of fun in the process! As well as the surfing lake, there will be wonderful food and drink, a surf shop, beautiful gardens, meadowland and woodland, peaceful hideaways and family-friendly camping.
The Wave is located in a beautiful rural site on the edge of Bristol, close to the M5. It will be open year-round, and a one-hour surf will cost £40-45 for an adult and £30-35 for a child, depending on the time of year and day of the week. A 1.5 hour surf session with coaching costs £55-60 for an adult and £45-50 for a child. All prices include everything you need, including wetsuit, wetsuit boots and surfboards. There are dedicated areas of the lake for beginner, intermediate and advanced surfers.
