Retail Buyers Guide:  Snowboards 2022/23 Retail Buyer’s Guide
Brand:  Vimana
Interviewee: Tronna, CEO

Everyone has been affected by impacts from Covid-19 in one way or another. Have you had to change manufacturing or sourcing processes and can you explain any good examples of how your business has pivoted effectively?
We tried to support the shops in the best way possible. Creating exciting stories with new products but also hyping up previous models we knew some shops had in stock. Overall our sell-through in shops has been amazing. To keep up with demand we have been working with our D2C and targeted areas where we don`t have any retailers.

Carry-over was a hot topic for 21/22 boards. Where did your brand sit on the matter and has this changed for 22/23?
We have been working with always in stock carryovers since day one 7 years ago. This has been working well for us and our retailers.

The bricks and mortar model is changing rapidly. How are you working with retailers and your ecommerce channel to ensure as little conflict as possible?
With D2C we target areas where our brick and mortar game is less strong. We always try to direct customers to Vimana retailers.

What’s your company doing to improve its carbon footprint/eco consciousness?
All our products have been vegan since day one, this is not a direct eco consciousness decision but more a animal health decision. The good thing is that this synergy effects on climate and our carbon footprint.
All our wood is locally sourced and we are experimenting with eco friendly epoxy subsitutes.

Are you using any new materials in your hardware for 22/23? If so, what, and why? We’re interested in anything new in inserts / edges / cores / sidewalls / glue / resin/ wood types / base material etc here.
We are pretty much sticking to our success recipe, but we are experimenting with eco friendly epoxies.

What about shapes? Anything new for 22/23? Does anything remain unexplored, or are there still advances to be made in shaping specifically?
For fall 22 we are releasing a lot of new shapes and signature models. Our line is moving more towards directional shaped freestyle boards. Our award winning Continental twin and directional has been rebuilt from the base up.

What new items do you have that are specifically aimed at entry level? Has this increased/decreased due to COVID-19? Please also mention anything new that’ll be aimed at the youth market.
We focus on building highly functional boards for a beginner to quickly gain skills. Our Continental boards are a excellent choice for beginners and intermediate riders who wants a board they can evolve together with.We have also built a high-end junior setup in lengths from 110cm-130cm.

Prices: Which area of the market do you primarily cater to, price-wise? Have you revisited this after the uncertainty of this past winter?
We produce High-End products in mid-range pricepoints.

The Flying Fox

Please tell us about the dominant visual themes in your 22/23 gear, including any interesting artist collabs you have lined up.
As always we are working with Shallowtree on all our artwork. He has been killing it this year with artwork based in the Vimana universe. This line has been color corrected, meaning you can mix any binding color with any board color, they will match up perfectly.

Park? Freeride? All-mountain? where will your primary focus be in 22/23, and how much has that changed since 21/22?
Vimana is a freestyle brand but our range of boards are definetly  all-mountain. We kind of removed the lines between park/pow/allmountain. All our boards are built to perform on all conditions and terrain.
